Last year wasn’t the first time Shelton has served as co-host of the award show, either. In 2011 and 2012, Shelton joined Reba McEntire on the stage for the evening. Bryan, however, took the ACM stage as co-host for the first time this year. The evening turned out to be a memorable one for him for other reasons, too, as he also won the coveted Entertainer of the Year award.
As he took the stage to accept the trophy, he worked hard to hold back tears. But at the same time, he was genuinely thrilled, grinning from ear to ear.
“I don’t know what to say,” he finally admitted. “Thank you guys so much, fans, for doing this to me. For making my life what it is. What I always wanted to be was just a country singer who got to ride on a tour bus and show up on a stage and play music every night.”
